O eis-craque da seleção brasileira participou nesta quarta-feira de um debate realizado na Comissão de Educação, Cultura e Esporte do Senado Federal, em que disse estar assustado com os custos e a qualidade das obras para o Mundial, e deu declarações polêmicas - especialmente em relação ao presidente da Fifa, Joseph Blatter, a quem chamou de ladrão e filho da puta.

Em entrevista à ESPN Brasil, Romário não poupou as principais figuras envolvidas na organização da Copa-2014. "Hoje, o próprio Jerome Valcke, que é o secretário geral da fifa, acabou de dizer que essa pode ser uma das piores Copas da história. O deputado federal ainda questionou a qualidade das obras dos estádios. Ele cita que o Mané Garrincha, em Brasília, apesar do custo de R$ 1,5 bilhão, apresenta goteiras e sistema precário de internet.

"Fiquei sabendo por fonte segura que o sistema de climatização das áreas vips da arena ainda não foi concluído porque os aparelhos de ar condicionado não foram adquiridos até agora", concluiu.
